ANDRATX
Surrounded by charming villas with pools, Andratx is rightly considered one of the most delightful places to stay in Majorca whether for romantic breaks or peaceful family holidays.
Set within its own bay and surrounded by hills to the north and east, Port Andratx has its own favourable microclimate providing shelter for boats and warm late evening beaching and eating at the numerous restaurants on the quayside.

Andratx is a region with three areas all of which have different characters. In common with most old towns of Mallorca, each settlement had a port
with, either a fortified town such as at Alcudia or Palma, or an inland town at a safe distance from the coast away from pirate attacks and Andraitx was no different.
A few properties at Port Andratx give directly onto a beach near the sailing club in addition to a couple of small beaches near the quayside
so most of the villas have pools. The big beach for Port Andratx is over the hill to the east in the bay adjacent at Camp del Mar.
Whilst Majorca is usually thought of as a summer holiday destination, due to the favourable microclimate, Port Andratx provides a pleasant base for a sunny winter break when Mallorca is bursting with Almond blossom and provides a more reliable alternative to the Canary Islands where the weather has become increasingly unreliable.
Between Andratx and Camp del Mar is a delightful hill and valley of the character
of the roads behind the l'Esterel in France coming down into La Napoule on the French Riviera,
with possibly even the same hint of red tinge to the stone.
Beyond Andratx to the west is a delightful small town of San Telmo alternatively written San Telm or Sant Elm.
Andratx and the port lie shielded from the rest of Mallorca to the east by a whole horseshoe of hills
and this gives the area its own microclimate which is especially championed by the locals. Celebreties have property here quietly and it's a favourite place for the Spanish Royal Family. People here are convinced that it's the warmest place to be in winter, especially if a property faces south or south-east. For this reason villas or apartments on the west side of the bay are more sought-after than those on the east side, which are in the lee of the hill
until much later in the day for winter sun. In summer, of course, this is of no importance.
Port Andratx is one of the few places left in Mallorca with a traditional fishing fleet and the fish restaurants around the port are supplied with fresh fish caught every day by the fishermen.
The Marina is a charming place to visit and the restaurant and cafe are good. There's also a small beach beyond. Ducks arrived in Andratx some 15 years ago and have now bred to a flock of 40 or so resident birds.
